Challenges faced by the School

One can really fathom without being told the challenges a school at the heart of Somalia can face. A country wrecked by chaos, unrest and without a functional government is bound to face many educational problems. Children who got awakened and only knew about the different assortment of weapons are actually disadvantaged and are vulnerable to more harm in life let alone getting a quality education. It is worth noting that the school is the only school in Bakool region providing quality education. This school, which is functioning for 5 years, was able to manoeuvre through difficult times as it has overcome issues of gender imbalance, the quality of education which is the syllabus of Kenya but nevertheless it still is groping with the following challenges:
1. Insufficient teaching facilities such as text books, teaching materials etc as the school is remotely located in Huddur, Bakool region, far from accessible places.
2. Lack of teachers who are rare to find. The teachers slip away after a short duration of stay which may be accounted for by another challenge.
3. Insufficient funds or money to pay the teachers/ facilitators. This result in low pay and they eventually go away. Some times the school stays without teachers and the few teachers will have hard time fill the gap.
4. Education phobia, ill belief and lack of closer co-operation between parents or even the whole community and the school.
5. Inability of the students to bring school fees. The community is wholly not productive and their means of income is very narrow.
6. Working in old and dilapidated classrooms which badly need renovation and refurbishment.
7. Lack of support from the NGO’S who are oblivious of this thriving and productive school. It only has the support of some community elders who have nothing to offer to the school.
