Brief History of the School
Shodog primary school is situated in Huddur, the headquater of Bakol province. Bakol province is one of the provinces in Somalia. In that tiny town which is a relic of the old town at the time central government of Somalia, there was little hope of an educational institution. No one ever thought of a child in this town getting education. In the current situation of Somalia, to start a school is the toughest thing to do. Under a great cover of darkness, the school was like a flicker of light that has illuminated the horizon for the residents of this town.
The school was started by Mohamed Kheir Mohamed Noor, a well known person and a great educationist who advocates for the wellbeing of the people of this town. The idea solely emanated from him and with help and support from the authorities and the local elders, he was able to rise above all hurdles and start this noble work.
The school was launched on 29th June 2007 after pulling the little resources together. Rome was not built in one day was a proverbial saying that is jolly well true. It was not possible for all classes to be started. The first lot started from class 1 up to class 3. The school’s enrolment was around 500 students at the time of starting. It is interesting to note that the pioneer of the school has done a lot as he has tried his best to borrow the Kenyan syllabus and curriculum taking the great risk of incurring a lot of expenses not for his own interest but for common good of the people in the region.
The school’s opening was just like a turning point for the people of the town. They were very happy about the starting of the school and they showed a lot of appreciation. They came in large mass at the opening ceremony of the school only to show their support for the education their children are going to receive.
Since its commencement, the school has been becoming popular by the day. With the support of the community elders and will of the pioneer, the school has been attaining major development in the academia.
The first group of the school is now in class eight. Fortunately or unfortunately, the children cannot get their class eight education in Somalia. After finishing class seven, the students have their own liberty to pursue their education in their own way be it joining class eight in Kenya or any other place. This is merely for the reason that the manager cannot help to go further than that.
With the will and determination of the parents of the students, they have decided to send their children to Kenya where they will be able to augment their education. Most of those who finished class seven have joined class eight in Kenya.
